Introducing UMED: a Value-Added Program that Could Save Your Life or the Life of a Loved One.
UMED is the world's only complete emergency medical records response system.
With a single, 100% secure toll-free telephone call to UMED, emergency physicians can now learn your medical history in any language ... at any time day or night ... from anywhere around the world. In just moments, doctors can learn your medical condition, allergies, medications, immunizations, test results and other critical facts that can help keep you alive in an emergency. An immediate follow-up fax to the physician confirms this information in hard copy.
In non-emergencies, UMED is useful for the care management of the chronically ill - who take multiple medications and change doctors frequently - as a centralized repository of such a patient's complete, and frequently changing, medical history. |

What UMED Does for Its Members
UMED was designed by physicians, emergency medical professionals, parents and caregivers to address the need for a "patient-centered" medical record. The fact is that when you need your medical records most – when you are in an emergency room or when you are seeing a new doctor – your records are out of reach in the filing cabinets of your physicians, hospitals, and insurance companies.
With UMED you control your medical records so that they can play an active role in ensuring rapid, effective medical treatment.
Here's how the service works:
- UMED sends you (or your physician) a medical questionnaire designed to collect all relevant information that your physicians need to treat you effectively.
- Once completed your medical records are entered into the UMED database by Nurses. UMED's Nurses understand medical terminology and will review your record to make sure it is complete and accurate.
- UMED sends you back a review copy of your UMED Record so that you (and/or your physician) can check your record for accuracy and completeness.
- UMED also supplies you with a UMED Card (for your wallet or purse) and other Identification that will be clearly visible in an emergency. Emergency medical personnel, trained to look for identification in an emergency, will find your UMED Card and contact our nurse-staffed hot line to get your medical records.
- UMED is extremely useful for your day-to-day healthcare. You can have your medical records faxed to a new physician or specialist before you arrive. This will eliminate annoying paperwork and ensure speedy, effective treatment by all your medical professionals. MORE>
