UMED: Health Care for the Millennium
TORONTO, ON – October 28, 1999: Universal Medical History and Information Inc. (UMED), Canada's leading medical call centre, addressed the future of electronic patient records today at the E-Health and Telemedicine: The Future of Health Care conference.
The conference, sponsored by PricewaterhouseCoopers and Report on Business Magazine, is a forum for health care administrators and professionals to address the future of health care in Canada. This lecture series focused on increasing the quality of patient care through the transmission of health information.
Dr. Chris Mazza, Medical Consultant for UMED, spoke on The Future of Electronic Patient Records and the vital role already played by UMED. He stresses that providers and participants in the ‘care' of a patient are not designed to ‘share' information and cites UMED as a current system designed to alleviate this problem. The patient's record is always accessible to medical practitioners and once the health care system becomes ‘connected' UMED's nurse-staffed call centre will offer the redundancy and ‘peace of mind' patients and clinicians want.
Information equals safety in health care and UMED's 24 hour, 7 day a week toll-free hotline is in place to provide much-needed patient information. The call centre is staffed by registered nurses that speak to physicians using proper medical terminology, with translation into foreign languages as needed. UMED's history of development and focus on strong core competency make it an ideal choice for ensuring the safety and continuity of health care in the new millennium.
